Anthropology in the Web

The site of the anthropology department of UCL (University College of London) includes rich information about this discipline and his different areas: biological anthropology, material culture and social anthropology. The headline of the page leads us to thinking about the scientific character of the discipline, proclaiming: "Welcome to anthropology: the most scientific of the humanities, the most humanistic of the science". In addition the site shows news updated in the area of the anthropology, as for example new archaeological finds. The link for this site is: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/anthropology/.

The site of the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at the university of British Columbia is very interesting and interactive. The collection of the museum is consist of 35.000 etnographic objects and 500.000 archaeological objects. The materials derive from many parts of the world, including the South Pacific, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. This site contains links to enter to online exhibits, where the different objects can be observed, beside acceding to a detailed description of his context and of the society who produced them. My favorite song

My favorite song is "Satisfy my soul" from Bob Marley. Bob Marley is a legendary singer, because his songs show us a vision of the world and a perpective of live that have inspired many people around the world. His songs of faith, devotion, and revolution created a legacy, because is message is also political, acting against war and repression, and its influence has expanded in different continents, generations, classes and creeds. This jamaican singer was inspired by his belief in Rastafari. Some have called a "musical prophet", is a legend. The lyrics of the song is:

Oh, please don´t you rock my boat (don´t rock my boat)

´Cause I don´t want my boat to be rockin´ (don´t rock my boat)

Oh, please don´t you rock my boat (don´t rock my boat)

´Cause I don´t want my boat to be rockin´ (don´t rock my boat)

I´m telling you that, oh, oh-ooh, wo-o-wo!

I like it - like it this (I like it like this, I like it like this)

-So keep it steady, like this. (I like it like this)

And you should know - you should know by now:

I like it (I like it like this), I like it like this

(I like it like this, I like it like this),

I like it like this, ooh yeah! (I like it like this)

(Satisfy my soul)

You satisfy my soul (satisfy my soul);

You satisfy my soul (satisfy my soul).

Every little action (satisfy my soul),

there´s a reaction (satisfy my soul).

Oh, can´t you see what you´ve done for me, oh, yeah!

I am happy inside all - all of the time. Wo-oo-o-oo!

When we (bend) bend a new corner,

I feel like a (sweep) sweepstake winner.

When I meet you around the corner (round the corner),

You make me feel like a sweepstake winner (a sweep - a sweepstake winner).

Whoa, child! Can´t you see?

You must believe me!

Oh darling, darling,

I´m calling, calling:

Can´t you see? Why won´t you believe me?

Oh, darling, darling, I´m calling, calling

(calling, calling, calling, calling)

When I meet you around the corner,

Oh, I said, "Baby, never let me be a loner",

And then you hold me tight, you make me feel all right.

Yes, when you hold me tight, you made me feel all right.

Whoa, honey, can´t you see? Don´t you believe me?

Oh, darling, darling, I´m callin´, callin´:

Can´t you see? Why won´t you believe me?

Oh, darling, darling, I´m callin´, callin´

(calling, calling, calling, calling).

Satisfy my soul - satisfy my soul - satisfy my soul - satisfy my soul:

That´s all I want you to do, that´s all I´ll take from you:

Satisfy my soul, satisfy my soul.

I feel that every time I hear this song reassure me, gives me a message of peace and optimism in difficult times, has helped me in times of distress to feel better. This song speaks about the love, and it me resembles my boyfriend, because he likes to it, and i know that when he listen this song, he also thinks in me. This is my favorite so it makes me feel, beyond other explanations.

Hi, my name is Maia Guiskin, i'm a student of social anthropology in the "Universidad de Chile", i'm in the third year, and i like so much, because the class are very interesting and the readings too. I have learned very much. I'm very interested in learning more about computation, because i'm not a internet-adict. In this semester i expect to learn more of this language, because nowadays is very useful for the future. Also i expect to know for my classmates of other carreers and to take advantage to the maximum of this semester.
